“What Would Jesus Buy?”

December 17, 2008

I finally got around to watching “What Would Jesus Buy?” the documentary by Morgan Spurlock, documenting the travels of Reverend Billy on a cross-country trip to sp the word of the “Church of Not Shopping.” The trip takes place the month before Christmas 2005, as the “Church of Stop Shopping” attempts to sp the word that you don’t need to buy all of that “stuff” to have a good Christmas. The documentary was released last Christmas, and is now out on DVD. Reverend Billy is on a mission to sav…

August 1, 2008

Attention creative Americans and aspiring filmmakers who are passionate about climate change and looking to assemble a difference: a new video competition from Brighter Planet and 1Sky gives everybody a chance to win some money (as much as $3000!), get 15 minutes of fame, and (most importantly) assemble a statement by potentially inspiring the next President to take bold environmental action.

Greener Gossip Girl

August 1, 2008

The cast of the hit television show, Gossip Girl, are greening up their act. In addition to banning plastic water bottles and cups from the set, Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Penn Badgley have starred in some fun, creative video clips with a green report.

Trend-setting, wealthy socialites on-screen, the trio teamed up to add a Gossip Girl flair to green living, potentially hitting the 13-25 age bracket more effectively than other eco-videos.

The clips were sponsored by the NRDC (N…

Beijing watch: 10 days left to clear the haze

July 29, 2008

I take it all back, Beijing was a great choice to host that year’s Olympics. Preparations for the Summer Games don’t usually produce much newsworthy material — heck, sometimes the entire event goes by with a big yawn. In stark contrast, the buildup to that year’s games has been a hotbed of stories that draw our attention to the environmental degradation that Beijing is working to hide.

With only 10 days left to prepare and nearly all of the options already exercised, Beijing’s air qualit…
