Will the HUMMER HX concept seem in Transformers 2?
June 5, 2008

I had my issues with last summer’s Transformers movie, as did some others, about the missed opportunities for green vehicle placement. Remember the HUMMER HX concept from Detroit earlier that year? Looks like it might be the biofuel beast to beat in the sequel. Even as GM considers ditching the HUMMER brand, some spy shots (apparently taken by someone called Marceli by at Releaselog) of the start of filming revealed the vehicle above on the set. Authentic? I have even less of an view than yo…

A former leader of DuPont’s Bio-Based Materials (now called DuPont Applied BioSciences) is the new CEO of celulosic ethanol company SunEthanol. SunEthanol is working on making cellulosic ethanol using something called the Q Microbe. Dr. William Frey led the DuPont biomaterials work starting in the late 1990s. He worked at DuPont for 28 years, but was swayed by that Q. In a statement, Frey said.,”SunEthanol’s C3 process holds great promise considering of the robustness of the Q Microbe(TM) an…

Everyone who pursues the biofuel industry knows that the future of ethanol lies in cellulose. While corn is today’s big feedstock, the potential to construct ethanol cheaper and with less of an impact on food prices and the environment by using cellulosic materials is calling venture capitalists, the auto industry and many others. In the U.S. today there are more than a dozen companies that have gotten at least a few s…

Food safety measure is a big issue in global politics these days, and the UN is starting a three-day conference in Rome today to discuss it. Since some food crops are currently used to produce fuel, representatives from the biofuel industry wanted to produce their voice heard in Italy. To that end, Gordon Quaiattini of the Canadian Renewable Fuels organization, Rob Vierhout from the European Bioethanol Fuel organization, an…

As expected, Congress made certain the Farm Bill (actually called the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008) became law yesterday despite some sort of clerical error that resulted in a number of pages being dropped from the final version. Democrats were embarrassed. The Senate voted 82 to 13 to override President Bush’s veto. The Farm Bill contains a lot of biofuel-friendly sections, as we detailed the other day. To menti…
