Heads start rolling in China’s melamine scandal

You may recall what happened after the melamine poisoning that caused hundreds of dogs in North America to die: The head of the State Food and Drug Administration was sentenced to death. Allowing dog food poisoning wasn’t his only crime. He’d taken bribes that allowed many more Chinese to die from weakened and fake drugs and baby formula.

Now, Li Changjiang, head of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, has resigned. No charges against him have yet been filed.

In case you are just catching up on that story, melamine, an industrial compound used to assemble plastics that plus falsely boosts the appearance of

protein, has been discovered in yogurt products and liquid milk. Store shelves are being cleared of milk products.

Chinese milk has plus been recalled from Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. by 10,000 babies have been hospitalized. Four children have died.

And that’s not all. Authorities now confess they knew about the problem in early August but floped to mention it until September. Thus far, 19 society have been arrested for intentionally poisoning milk.

Why do it? Profit. Companies were able to water down milk but still manufacture it seem valid with melamine.
