Christmas can be a financially draining experience. amidst gift giving, party hosting and decorating, it can feel more like work than a holiday.

Why not save some money that year, duck out of some of the commercialism, and spend some quality moment alone or with family making your own decorations?

These ideas are not only eco-friendly, they additionally supply the opportunity to start a new holiday tradition.

Holiday Parties

  1. Holiday-themed last-minute table decorations from Holidash will brighten up any meal.
  2. Craft your own decorative stars from scraps of paper. Hang them up, attach to a wreath, or place with your table ornaments for a personal touch.
  3. Convert potted plants from around your home into rare decorations and centerpieces. Using items like pine cones from the yard, scrap wrapping paper, cotton balls, Christmas decorations, and seasonal fruits and veggies, you can cover up the soil. Wrap the pot in festive scrap wrapping paper or other findings to complete the look.
  4. Choose soy-based or beeswax candles instead of their chemical-filled contemporaries. Better yet, wrap some cinnamon sticks in festive ribbon for a fresh scent.

Old Ornaments

  1. Transform plain Christmas ball ornaments into a chic centerpiece!
  2. Check out lilybee’s reindeer transformation featured on Curbly for ideas about how to spruce up your figurines. You could even paw through the boxes of old toys in the basement, or hit up a flea market for some figurines that you can breathe some life into!
  3. Are your stockings looking dingy? Find out how to turn old sweaters and blankets into new stockings.
