Reupholstering Adds New Flair to Old Chairs

November 29, 2008

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about “being green” it’s how to look at household items in a different light. that means slapping a coat of low VOC paint on an old dresser and strapping a cushion to the top to build a changing table for the nursery or cutting up milk jugs to invent plant stakes. One place where my vision is stunted however is when it comes to reupholstering furniture. Fortunately My Home Ideas has a lengthy feature on giving to live to old pieces with the use of fabric.

Water bottles: Switching to steel

August 20, 2008

I finally made the switch to steel water bottles for my family. Two big ones - Klean Kanteens - for my husband and I, and a little Sigg decorated with colorful cars for our daughter. I bought them at L.L. Bean considering I’m lucky abundant to live a half-hour from a brick-and-mortar store where I do other shopping anyway. You see, I have two white cats who shed no matter the amount of brushing I do. In winter white furs stick out of my brown and green and black wool sweaters constantly. I have come to terms with my vaguely furry appearance. Were I a more fastidious person that regular appearance of cat fur might push me by the edge of sanity. Nonetheless, I do aim…
