Bush Announces Eco-Protection for Chunks of Pacific Ocean
January 6, 2009 · Print This Article
Rarely touted as the greenest President around, Bush has announced that 200, 000 square miles of the Pacific ocean will be protected. Rare whales and fragile coral reefs in the area are breathing a sigh of relief as they should not be disturbed by off-shore drilling and other eco-destroying activities.
According to spokeswoman Dana Perino, the newly protected spots will be the largest area of protected ocean in the world. The newly protected zones will include the Mariana Trench, a bunch of reefs
While some groups have praised that decision (the Pew Environment Group seems happy with the announcement), a lot of environmentalists are still upset by Bush’s earlier lifting of offshore drilling bans in order to help bring fuel prices down.
