Bo Pilgrim, ranchers want to kill ethanol mandates

Whether you run a restaurant, or just do the shopping for your household, you’ve probably noticed a substantial increase in your grocery bill. that year, for whatever reason, food prices have simply come off the chain — and it’s cutting into the profits of some very strong and influential industries. According to some of our benevolent officials, the spiraling prices are being driven by grain shortages and commodities speculation — but a new report in the Guardian says what we’ve distant suspected — it’s biofuel.

The goods, gathered by the World Bank, blames biofuels for a 75% increase in food prices. That’s huge. Most numbers have come in much lower, but World Bank’s study factors in the diversion of grain from food to fuel, land diverted into fuel production, and financial speculation in

the grains market.

So, what knowledge do you trust? Apparently, Bo Pilgrim (of Pilgrim’s Pride fame) and many other farmers and ranchers are blaming ethanol for the price hike. It seems that Pilgrim made a controversial $100,000 donation to Texas’ Governor Rick Perry only weeks before Perry asked for a waiver on federal biofuel mandates. While Pilgrim’s donation might be sleazy politics as usual, he’s not alone in his opposition to biofuels. Many large ranching and livestock organizations — which feed hundreds of thousands of animals each day — are irate by the soaring grain prices.

So, there you have it. Lots of influential society with a lot to lose believe that ethanol is a dominant force pushing up their feed prices, which in turn heavily affects our grocery prices.
