While we’ve spotlighted green book sources before, I do believe that Better World Books might be the only place you’ll be shopping in the future.
Here’s what makes them so great, and my new top pick for book buying:
All books sold help fund high-impact literacy projects around the world.
Not only do they sell new books, but they gather and sell donated books as well. Not only is that a great way to reduce/reuse/recycle, it plus has helped to generate $4.5 million in funding for lite…

whether you’re in the market for a new home, and you’ve thought about building green, but the cost has deterred you, you may be happy to find out that the gap is narrowing. The cost of green materials and the growing knowledge of green building practices among contractors has helped the prices lower to within the average person’s budget.
Now, the larger concern here may be the long-term cost of not building green. certain, not all of us can afford newly-built homes, that’s a given, but th…

Can a car really be a valid part of the American driving experience whether it hasn’t been involved in at least one fender bender? It’s kinda like the tree falling in the woods question. whether all the Teslas were under protective covers in museums, they couldn’t be demonstrating the awesome potential of the electric car. Sadly, it seems that the Tesla Roadster has now passed through that threshold into auto history. And while it hurts to see a beautiful car mangled, in a way it’s a sign of…

For the month of August, the UN’s New York headquarters will be trying out a new method to address climate change — ditching the business suit. Starting Friday, the building’s AC will be set at 77°F instead of its usual 72°F on workdays and the switched off on the weekends. To mitigate the expected heat — not that 77°F is precisely sweltering — members are encouraged to wear their national dress, suit jackets optional.
The pilot program is called Cool U.N. and it probably won’t be v…

In environmental terms, fast food is pretty much invariably not green. From the somewhat savvy coffee and bagel shops to the golden arches — the excess trash, factory farm practices, and the fact that it’s served in a drive-thru pretty much stack the deck against these places. Still, places like Dunkin’ Donuts seem to think that they can woo a hip new demographic by greening up their image.
Not only is Dunkin’ Donuts building a LEED Gold-certified restaurant in Florida, now they’re offer…

According to a recent study by the University of Utah, the age of your home directly relates to your level of obesity. In fact, women’s risk of obesity dropped 8 percent for every 10 years older her house was, and men’s risk dropped by 13 percent.
So is that the reply to everyone’s problems? whether you’re overweight, can you simply move to an old house and you’ll instantly look like Kate Moss? Well, that’s not precisely how it works, although admittedly, researchers are not completely po…

We had some warning that summer came early that year, but the reality of the Arctic ice caps melting is still stunning. Last week a chunk measuring eight square miles broke off the shelf on Ward Island in the Canadian Arctic. And experts predict that more is on the way.
This is the largest break since a 25 mile piece broke off the nearby Ayles ice shelf in 2005. Scientists believe that the next break could even be as large as the 2005 break.
To put the ice loss in perspective, there once w…
